THE CENTRAL LABORATORY OF MECHATRONICS AND INSTRUMENTATION (CLMI) AT THE BULGARIAN ACADEMY OF SCIENCES was founded in 1994 after the reorganisation of the Institute of Mechatronics, one of the successors of the Institute of Technical Cybernetics and Robotics (ITCR) which was established in 1979.
The main research areas of the Central Laboratory of Mechatronics and Instrumentation are mechatronics, robotics and specialized instrumentation.
The core research activities are focused on design, analysis, development of mechatronic and control systems, robots, specialized and unique devices. Our researchers optimize the system parameters, structure and control through mathematical modelling and computer simulation.
Novel serial, parallel and hybrid manipulation systems are synthesised. Analyses of the kinematics, workspace, singularity and motion planning of robotic systems, behaviour and control of complex systems (mechatronics, energy and fluid systems) are significant research priorities. New methods for information processing are investigated. Information coding and ciphering algorithms for the communication and multimedia systems are developed.
The innovative research of the scientists and specialists of CLMI are covered by 18 patents and 8 patents pending. The patents are in the field of mechatronics, and the patents pending are for manipulators, gripers and joints.
